Sharita Antoinette Russell – January 26, 1978 – February 26, 2026
Sharita Antoinette Russell, age 48, of Buena Park, California, passed away on February 26, 2026, due to respiratory failure. Born on January 26, 1978, in St. Louis, Missouri, Sharita lived a life defined by generosity, warmth, and an unwavering devotion to her family and community. Sharita's greatest pride was raising her three sons. She spoke often and glowingly about each of them. Her oldest, Kevin, recently welcomed a baby girl and has built a career that allows him to provide for his growing family. Her middle child, Daniel, has been working his way through Target security, a path Sharita admired, often likening him to a little police officer. Her youngest, Shaun, is nearing the completion of his college degree. One of the kindest and most giving individuals you could have met, Sharita made it her mission to help others through their struggles, even while facing many of her own. She wanted people to feel loved, especially in their toughest moments. She found joy in celebrating black culture, cheering on those around her as they pursued their dreams, and connecting with others through social media, particularly TikTok live streams, where she loved seeing people spread positivity. After an injury placed her on disability, Sharita poured herself into community service. She volunteered at her sons' elementary school, organized fundraisers through the PTA, and eventually served as PTA president. She remained active at the school for two additional years after her youngest moved on. She also served on the board of Daniel and Shaun's youth football organization in Cerritos, California, where she temporarily held the role of vice president. Sharita is survived by her husband, Derek Anderson; her sons, Kevin Geoffrey Hawkins Jr., Daniel Christopher Anderson, and Shaun Anthony Anderson; her sister, Tiana Nichols; her cousin, Fedge Earnest; her niece, Briana Hughes; her nephews, Shaquille Hunter and Taj Shorty; and her dear friend, Sidney Owens. May she now rest peacefully in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Sharita often reminded those around her that life is too short to live hating each other, and instead, we should love one another and be grateful for all life has to offer. A memorial service will be held on March 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sunnyside Mortuary. All who knew and loved Sharita are welcome to gather in her memory.
