Robert Elliot Canal – October 6, 1960 – May 29, 2026

Robert Elliot Canal, known to many as "Dr. Bob," passed away on May 29, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was 65 years old. Born on October 6, 1960, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Robert lived a life defined by relentless curiosity, boundless energy, and a spirit that simply refused to stand still. Robert was a man of many talents and passions, holding degrees in Aeronautical Science, Computer Science, and Chiropractic Medicine. He was a licensed pilot who loved flying hang gliders, ultralights, and planes. He was a gifted musician with a beautiful voice and a skilled guitarist, always ready to jam with his brother Ken or anyone willing to pick up an instrument. He was an excellent cook who could grill a meal that brought people together, an avid offshore fisherman, a world traveler, and an amateur horticulturist with a particular fascination for growing medicinal mushrooms and learning about truffles. Professionally, Robert was an active member of the chiropractic community in Texas, contributing to efforts against insurance fraud in the state. His greatest professional achievement, however, was his project in Colombia, South America, called Jaguare, which he dreamed would become his family's lasting legacy. Robert maintained deep ties to his extended family in Ibagué, Colombia, His Aunt Estela, Uncle Tonio and Cousin Juan Carlos Espana, and countless other family members who loved him dearly. Don Pepe as he was affectionately referred to, spent time there regularly and worked to create jobs and continue the legacy of our mother, Bianca Pamphilis (Canal), who was always dedicated to helping the community in Juntas Colombia, our farm "Los Sauces." His greatest pride was his children and all their accomplishments. Robert is survived by his son, Robert D. Canal ("Berchik") wife Tamera and granddaughter, Thyri Canal; his daughter, Nina Canal; his brother, Ken Canal and wife Kim Canal; his nephews Jason, Shawn, Alec, his sister, Milena Canal and William Stolte; his nephew Christopher and wife Nicole Canal; and his niece, Bianca Canal. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Mirka Miroslawa Morrison, whom he considered a dear friend and loved, and Eva Rain, who he also treasured, and she remained close to him in his final days. Robert was blessed with lifelong friends who loved him and remained close to him. Robert was not a simple man, and perhaps that is what made him unforgettable. Bobby lived boldly, chasing experiences, embracing adventure, and rarely standing still. He could be generous and difficult, loving and frustrating, selfless in one moment and self-centered in the next. Like all of us, he carried contradictions. But he also left behind laughter, stories, memories, and a life that was lived fully and without hesitation. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on June 28th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Pallotta's Italian Grill, 27606 I-45, Oak Ridge North, TX 77385. Lunch will be served, and all are welcome to share stories and memories. Robert will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread at a later date. Rest easy, Dr. Bob. Your journey here is complete. We release the burdens and hold fast to the memories that remain in the hearts of those you left behind. May we carry forward the lessons, the love, and the joy of a life lived fully.
