Mary Love Thomas – January 5, 1933 – June 1, 2026
Mary Love Thomas, known lovingly as Mary Love, was born on January 5, 1933, in Smiths Station, Alabama, to the late Ceola Cook and the late Major Phillips. She passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 93, in Smiths Station, the place she had always called home. Mary Love grew up in Smiths Station and eventually made her way to Florida, where she worked at a flower nursery. It was a fitting chapter for a woman whose warmth and gentle spirit could make anything bloom. On April 18, 1952, she married the love of her life, the late Johnnie Will Thomas, and the two built a life together rooted in devotion, family, and faith. Mary Love was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Johnnie Will, and two brothers. She leaves behind a family who will carry her memory forward with pride and love. Survivors include one son, Prentess Johnson of Phenix City, Alabama; one brother, Milton Charles Cook (Frances) of Smiths Station; four grandchildren, Prentess Adrian Johnson, Ashley Nicole Johnson, Prentess Josiah Johnson, and Jacelyn Mary Johnson; one aunt, Ella Francis Cook of Smiths Station; one sister-in-law, Jessie M. Phillips of Smiths Station; a devoted cousin, Mary Della Anderson of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mary Love lived a life of quiet faithfulness, and we take comfort knowing she has made her peaceful journey home to be embraced by the Lord she served. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Motts, Alabama, with Rev. Tommy Davis, Pastor, officiating.
