Lynial Young – October 30, 1942 – September 12, 2026
Lynial Young, of Pooler, Georgia, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on October 30, 1942, in Panama City, Florida, she lived a life defined by faith, family, and an unwavering devotion to serving others. Lynial was a woman of deep Christian faith, and that faith was the anchor of everything she held dear. She loved her church and gave generously of herself, whether serving in the community, lending a hand to a neighbor, or lifting her voice in the choir. Singing brought her great joy, but it was fishing that truly captured her heart. There was nothing she enjoyed more than a day spent by the water, and those who knew her knew that a conversation with Lynial was never complete without some mention of her beloved pastime. Known for her big heart and her wonderful sense of humor, Lynial loved to laugh and could bring warmth to any room. She was quick to speak her mind, opinionated, and often thought of as tough as nails, yet beneath that strength was a gentle and caring soul. She spoke plainly and loved deeply, and those two qualities defined her in equal measure. For many years, Lynial made her home at Sheppard Station, a senior community where she was among the very first residents to move in. With her characteristic humor, she would often joke about being the last one there to turn out the lights. Lynial is survived by her devoted daughter, Cynthia Bennett-Potter, spouse (Roderick) ; her brothers, John R. Bennett Jr. and James E. Bennett, spouse (Rose); sisters, Gloria A. Bennett and Sylvia D. Bennett. 7 Grand children, Tynia Bennett Watkins, Terry Sanders, Lakisha M. Sanders, Cedric Allen, Eric Wynes, Valencia Major and Roderick Potter Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents John R. Bennett Sr. and Annie L Bennett, her youngest daughter; Deborah V. Allen; brother, Edwin B. Bennett, and her sisters, Dorothy Bennett Vann and Lorena Bennett Altidor. A woman of steadfast belief, Lynial now rests in the loving arms of the Lord she served so faithfully throughout her life. A service celebrating her life will be held at Bread of Life Pentecostal Church, 2414 Louisiana Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31404, with Pastor Benjamin Payne Collins officiating, October 5, 2026 at 1;00 p.m. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring a life well lived and a spirit that will not soon be forgotten.
