John Paul Filipski – January 17, 1968 – June 2, 2026
John Paul Filipski, 58, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away on June 2, 2026. Born on January 17, 1968, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, John lived a life full of love, laughter, and an unmistakable spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. John was fun loving, wonderfully sarcastic, and unapologetically stubborn, a combination that made him impossible to forget. He found his greatest joy in spending time with family and friends, and nothing brought him more happiness than watching his grandchildren grow. Whether he was out jeeping, gathering with his Florida friends, or dedicating himself to his work at FedEx Ground, John gave his whole heart to everything he did. His time with his two grandchildren and loving friends and family in Florida held an especially cherished place in his life. John is survived by his three children, Stephanie Elizabeth Filipski, Tabitha lyn Filipski and Timothy James Filipski; his mother, Delores Hughes Filipski; his siblings, Barbara Lesniak and husband Glenn , Bernard Filipski and wife Terry, Michael Filipski and wife Rose, and Sandra Eckardt and husband Edward; three stepdaughters; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Filipski. A candlelight gathering will be held on June 13 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, with an additional service in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to be determined at a later date. In the words of his children: "Continue to tell the stories about our father. Remember those moments as they are all that we have left. Never forget the love and laughter he brought to a room, the stubbornness that drove you crazy, and the devotion he had for everyone he loved. Drink a beer, smoke a cigarette, or simply say 's**t' as it was his favorite word. Remember his hugs because they were always so tight, but simply remember him, as he was taken too soon from his story. He truly was a man to remember." — TJ, Steph, and Tabbe
