Joe Rhodes – August 2, 1969 – June 12, 2026
Joe Rhodes, a devoted husband, loving father, proud United States Marine, and cherished friend, passed away on June 12, 2026, at his home in Tempe, Arizona, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56 years old. Born on August 2, 1969, in Bay Springs, Mississippi, Joe grew up with a spirit of service and determination that would define the course of his life. In 1989, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, embarking on a distinguished 22-year military career. Rising to the rank of Sergeant Major (E-9), the highest enlisted rank achievable, Joe demonstrated extraordinary leadership and dedication, guiding and mentoring hundreds of Marines throughout his service. His commitment to country and corps was unwavering, and the values he carried from the military shaped every aspect of his life. On June 5, 2014, Joe married the love of his life, Danielle Moore, and together they built a home filled with warmth and devotion. Joe was a hands-on father who treasured time spent with his children, whether enjoying music, working on cars, or simply being together. He maintained a lifetime of deep friendships and was beloved by all who knew him. Beyond his military service, Joe dedicated himself to his community with the same passion he brought to everything he did. He served as a recruiter for the U.S. Marine Corps, inspiring the next generation of service members. He also worked with the Back on Track program in Arizona, helping troubled youth find direction and purpose. Joe believed deeply in serving family and those in need, and he lived that belief every single day. Joe is survived by his wife, Danielle; his children, Joe Rhodes Jr., Anthony Rhodes, and Dakota Ignace; his father, Joe Bender Sr.; his mother, Doris Rhodes; his sister, Lanette Bender Pittman (Marvin Pittman), Jacqueline O'Quin (Kenneth O'Quin) and his brother, Tobey Bender. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Anthony Rhodes. Funeral services will be held on July 10, 2026, at Gilbert Memorial Cemetery in Gilbert, Arizona, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the eulogy from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Winifred.
