James H Lamb Sr. – October 18, 1942 – October 14, 2026
James H. Lamb Sr., known affectionately to all as Jim, passed away on October 14, 2026, at his home in Channelview, Texas, following complications of lung cancer. He was 83 years old. Jim was born on October 18, 1942, in Dade County, Florida, to Harry Hollis Lamb and Dorothy Lamb. He grew up in Miami, where he attended Miami Dade High School. In the early 1960s, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army and being stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. In May 1964, Jim married the love of his life, Mary S. Helms. Together they built a loving home and welcomed four children between 1965 and 1973. Their partnership was one of devotion and warmth, and Mary preceded him in death. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Jim pursued his lifelong passion for working with his hands as a mechanic. It was more than a profession to him; it was a craft he loved. He spent many years with Pan Am Airlines before retiring from Ryder and Ryan Transportation. Yet retirement never quite suited a man who loved his work so dearly. In 2010, he returned to the trade with PCO Div II Inc., finally retiring in 2019 after his diagnosis. Those who knew Jim remember a man of great humor and genuine kindness. He had a gift for making others laugh and a tender heart that put people at ease. He enjoyed watching MASH and Wonder Woman, and he never met a bowl of ice cream he did not love. A believer in Christianity, Jim continued to watch and listen to church services on television in his later years, holding to his faith with quiet steadfastness. Jim is survived by his four children, James H. Lamb Jr., Eva M. Reynolds, Sally Anne Larrabee, and Julie K. Lamb; his brother, Harry Lamb, of Ottawa, Canada; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great niece and great nephew in Houston, Texas; a niece and nephew in Ottawa, Canada; a niece in Michigan with two great nephews; and a nephew in Pembroke Pines, Florida. May he rest in the peace of the Lord, reunited with those who went before him. His laughter, his warmth, and his devotion will be remembered and cherished by all who loved him.
