Dolores Marie Gillis – September 23, 1941 – October 13, 2026
Dolores Marie Gillis, known affectionately to all who loved her as Dolly, passed away on October 13, 2026, at her home in Brockton, Massachusetts, following a courageous battle with ALS. She was 85 years old. Born on September 23, 1941, in Braintree, Massachusetts, Dolores made Brockton her home for sixty years, becoming a proud and devoted member of her community. She shared her life with her beloved husband, Wayne Peter Gillis, and together they built a family rooted in love, warmth, and devotion. For thirty years, Dolores served the Brockton Public Schools, working as a Teacher Aide, Librarian, and Hearing and Vision Technician. Her work was a true reflection of who she was, for she loved helping children and found deep joy in looking out for others. Kind and caring by nature, she was always the first to offer a helping hand and the comfort of her presence to those in need. Dolores filled her days with the simple pleasures she treasured most. She delighted in quilting, bowling, sewing, knitting, cooking, reading, and traveling. She loved to share a good laugh, and her warmth drew people to her wherever she went. Above all, she cherished time spent with her beloved children and grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of her life. A woman of faith, Dolores attended church faithfully, and the gentleness of her spirit was a quiet testament to the beliefs she carried in her heart. She will be remembered for the love, kindness, and warmth she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Dolores is survived by her daughter, Gail Gillis, and her four sons, Bill Gillis, Hugh Gillis, Guy Gillis, and Steve Gillis, as well as her cherished grandchildren. She leaves behind a family forever shaped by her tenderness and the example of a life devoted to caring for others. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Swifts Beach in Wareham, Massachusetts. Family and close friends are warmly welcome to gather in her memory. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.
