Daniel Thomas Laing, known lovingly to those closest to him as Dan, passed away on April 2, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, after a courageous battle with COPD. He was 78 years old. Born on July 14, 1947, in Opelika, Alabama, Dan lived a full and purposeful life defined by service, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved. Dan proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army, carrying with him the discipline and dedication that would shape every chapter of his life. After his military service, he channeled his talents into the written word, becoming an accomplished author of several books. His love of language and precision also found expression in his passion for bookkeeping, a pursuit he genuinely enjoyed throughout the years. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dan was a man deeply rooted in community. He was an active and enthusiastic member of the Iris Society and gave generously of his time as a volunteer at the VA in Virginia. He was the kind of person who showed up when someone needed him, no questions asked. His strong work ethic, his generosity of spirit, and his commitment to providing for his family were qualities that everyone around him recognized and admired. Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Dian Laing; his son, Donny Michael Laing; his son, Danny Thomas Laing; and his daughter, Krissy Faith Laing. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Laing. His family was the center of his world, and the love he poured into them will continue to bear fruit for generations to come. A man of deep and abiding Christian faith, Dan walked through life trusting in the Lord's guidance and grace. His family takes great comfort in knowing that he now rests in the arms of his Savior, holding close the promise of Psalm 23:4: "I will fear no evil, for you are with me."
